CrowdCreate

How to add a donation button to Substack

Substack doesn't run custom code, so you can't paste the CrowdCreate snippet into a post or page. Use your hosted fundraising page instead — it takes one link.

Can the widget run on Substack?

This is the honest version: Substack does not allow custom HTML or scripts anywhere — not in posts, not in your About page, not in settings. The widget cannot run on Substack. That's a Substack limit, not a CrowdCreate one, and no workaround changes it. What does work: every CrowdCreate account gets a hosted page at crowdcreate.app/c/your-name. You share that link, funders pledge there, and the money still lands in your own Stripe account — same as the widget, just on a page we host instead of yours.

Your shareable page

Because Substack can't run scripts, you share a link instead of pasting code. Every account gets a hosted donation page — it works anywhere you can post a link.

How to set it up

  1. 1Start your fund and connect Stripe — your hosted page goes live at crowdcreate.app/c/your-name as soon as Stripe is connected.
  2. 2Copy your hosted-page link from your dashboard.
  3. 3Add the link to your Substack: drop it in a post, pin it in your Welcome message, or add it under Settings → your publication's homepage as a button.
  4. 4For recurring visibility, include the link in your newsletter footer so it rides along on every send.

Common questions

Do I need a paid plan on Substack?

It depends. Some Substack plans restrict custom code or embeds, so the inline widget may need a higher tier. If yours doesn't allow it, the hosted donation page works on any plan — you just link to it instead of embedding.

Where does the money go?

Into your own Stripe account, directly. CrowdCreate never holds or routes your donations — Stripe pays out to your bank on your schedule.

What does it cost?

$20/mo flat. No percentage of donations, no per-transaction fee from us. Cancel anytime, with a 30-day refund.
