CrowdCreate

Online donations for makerspaces on your own website

Add a contribution widget to your makerspace's own website so members and friends can chip in toward equipment, rent, or a project without leaving your page. The money goes straight to your space's Stripe account — we never hold it or take a cut. It's a flat $20 a month.

Funding a space that runs on goodwill

A makerspace runs on a thin margin and a lot of volunteer energy. Beyond core dues, the extra money — a new laser cutter, a rent shortfall, a community workshop — comes from one-off contributions and the occasional fundraiser. A percentage platform takes a cut of exactly that money, the discretionary giving that keeps the lights on and the tools current. And it usually lives off-site, on a third-party page that doesn't look like your space or speak in your voice, away from the website where your community already checks the calendar and the tool list.

Where CrowdCreate fits a makerspace

CrowdCreate puts a contribution button on the site you already run. Paste one snippet and members or visitors can give toward a specific tool, cover a gap in the rent, or back a community build — once, or monthly. The money goes to your space's own Stripe account, and a flat $20 a month means no percentage of a hardware fund disappears into a platform. This is for contributions and fundraising, not your membership-dues system — keep whatever you use for dues, and use CrowdCreate for the ask that funds the extras.

  • Collect contributions toward equipment, rent, or a specific build — one-time or recurring — on your own site.
  • A flat $20/mo with no cut; the percentage a typical tool keeps stays in the equipment fund instead.
  • Funds land in your space's own Stripe account; we never hold or route the money.
  • Keep your existing dues/membership tool — CrowdCreate handles the fundraising ask, not per-member billing.

Where CrowdCreate might not fit

CrowdCreate is a donation and contribution widget, not a membership-management or dues-billing system, and it doesn't run member tiers or access control. If you need recurring dues tied to door access or member accounts, keep your current tool for that and use CrowdCreate for open contributions and fundraisers.

Common questions

Can we use this for membership dues?

It can take recurring contributions, but it isn't a membership system — there are no tiers, member logins, or access control. Most spaces keep their dues tool and use CrowdCreate for the extra fundraising: equipment, rent gaps, community projects.

Can members give toward a specific tool or project?

Yes. Point the ask at whatever you're raising for — a CNC machine, a rent shortfall, a workshop series. The contributions go straight to your space's own Stripe account.

Does CrowdCreate take a percentage?

No. A flat $20 a month, no cut of what you raise. Stripe charges its standard processing fee (2.9% + 30¢ per contribution), which goes to Stripe.
